What happened

Bill Hader is trending because of coverage tied to Crystal Lake, Peacock’s Friday the 13th prequel series. New interviews have focused on Hader’s role alongside Linda Cardellini and on how the show approaches the franchise’s characters.

The series has also drawn attention because of its performance: it reportedly generated 1.3 billion viewing minutes in its first 11 days, which helped it become Peacock’s No. 4 scripted original debut ever.

Why the show matters

Crystal Lake expands Pamela Voorhees’s backstory, which was only lightly explored in the original 1980 Friday the 13th film. Cardellini plays Pamela Voorhees, and Hader plays her husband, connecting the story to Jason Voorhees’s origins.

That setup has renewed interest in the franchise because it adds family history to a character best known as the mother of Jason Voorhees, the franchise’s iconic killer.

The numbers behind the attention

Variety calculated that the 1.3 billion viewing minutes amount to roughly 3.3 million complete-series-equivalent views, based on the show’s reported 398-minute total runtime. Those figures are the main reason the series is being treated as a breakout debut.

The early audience response, plus new entertainment coverage about Hader and Cardellini, is what appears to be driving the current U.S. search interest in Bill Hader.

What to watch next

As of October 28, 2026, Peacock has not officially renewed Crystal Lake for a second season. Reports about Season 2 reflect showrunner Brad Caleb Kane’s plans, not confirmed production details.

Kane has said he wants more “Sackhead Jason,” more carnage, and fewer narrative restrictions for Jason if the series continues.
