What happened

Golden State Warriors two-way centre Graham Ike was announced as a starter against the Memphis Grizzlies on Friday, 23 October 2026 in the United States, which was Saturday, 24 October in Australia.

The starting group reportedly included Stephen Curry, Brandin Podziemski, Yaxel Lendeborg, Draymond Green and Ike. It was Ike’s first career start and only his second NBA game.

Gui Santos, who started in the season opener, was moved out of the first five for the Memphis game. He had played 25 minutes against the Lakers and finished with 12 points, 5 rebounds and 1 steal.

Why the Warriors made the change

The lineup adjustment followed a defensive problem in the opener against the Los Angeles Lakers, when centre Walker Kessler, listed at 7 feet 2 inches, reportedly went 12-for-12 from the field with 10 dunks.

The next opponent was Memphis centre Zach Edey, listed in the report at 7 feet 4 inches, so the Warriors appear to have wanted more size and interior defence.

That context helps explain why an unfamiliar name like Ike suddenly became a search topic, especially because he was starting next to well-known players such as Curry and Green.

Ike’s recent form

Ike made his Warriors debut in the season-opening loss to the Lakers on 21 October 2026, recording 8 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 three-pointer, 1 steal and 1 block in 12 minutes.

That debut gave the Warriors a small sample of what he could offer, but his first start against Memphis was still a notable leap for a two-way centre so early in the season.

Brandin Podziemski had been listed as probable because of a back issue, but he was cleared to play and stayed in the starting lineup.

What to watch next

As of 24 October 2026, the main thing to watch is whether Golden State keeps using Ike in bigger lineups when facing strong interior opponents.

It is also worth watching whether the Warriors continue to reshuffle the frontcourt after the opener exposed problems against size at the rim.

The reported starting lineup and numbers come from U.S. basketball media and league-tracking sources, and no Australian first-party or major Australian news report was found in the available results.
