What happened
Yuvraj Singh spoke on Friday, 30 October 2026, at the launch of Protocol 32 in Mumbai and said Ishan Kishan, Abhishek Sharma and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi deserve more opportunities in India’s ODI setup.
He argued that regularly leaving them out of 50-over cricket would not do justice to their talent. That is why Kishan’s name is now trending across search and social media in India.
Why people are talking about it
The comments have reopened a familiar selection debate: should India give T20-style power hitters more chances in ODIs, especially when they are already being discussed as top batting options?
The discussion is not about a squad announcement or a selection change. It is Yuvraj’s public opinion, not an official BCCI decision, and reports do not say India’s ODI squad was changed because of it.
What the numbers say
According to The Indian Express, Ishan Kishan has already played 32 ODIs. That puts him ahead of the other two players mentioned in Yuvraj’s remarks in terms of 50-over experience.
Abhishek Sharma and Vaibhav Sooryavanshi had not yet made their ODI debuts in the reports cited. The focus of Yuvraj’s point was that their talent should not be overlooked in the longer format.
What to watch next
As of 1 November 2026, the main thing to watch is whether selectors give any of these players more ODI chances in upcoming squads or series.
The immediate impact is in the public debate, not in an official team change. For now, the story is about Yuvraj Singh’s support and the broader question of India’s ODI selection strategy.
